the tourists are back

Springtime. Crocuses, daffodils, tulips, sunshine, big blustery winds, tourists. It's like with a flap of their wings they've flown back. Have to get used to the strangeness, the giving up of the island again to spandex. Ahh, another color of spring...tight stretchy very colorful, often flouresent spandex. Since we're a bit flat here on the island, it's the favorite destination of pedal pushers. Flocks of them.
Hard not to be - mused by these tourists. Locals sharing conspiratory grins when they remark in the local coffeeshop how 'quaint' it is that we have our personal mugs hanging up in the shop for those of us who hang out often. Or having to help the spandex claden man who kept going in and out of the gas station because he thought something was wrong with the pump. I helped him see & unkink the hose so that the gas would floweth foward......
Yes, be-mused right now because they are few and far between. But later in the season when I/we are in the minority I will be less amused perhaps a little hostile, by being refered to as 'quaint', or having to stop at the crest of a hill or blind curve because a load of bicyclists decided it was a good time to read a map. Yup the tourists are back.
