Indian music music music PART 2

Music. Last night was a big event in the town of Bikaner. Tom and his wife Celia saw some local musicians a few years ago and the seed of an idea started,that idea being to bring the musicians to the rest of the world. The musicians of course are very enthusiastic. Apparently the classical Indian musicians of the rest of the state of Rajasthan are recognized but not the ones of beginner. I don't know exactly why that is. The musicians themselves feel slighted. As it stands right now Tom has the NYU film school lined up to do filming next year as well as a sound recording. Last night was a preview of what will be recorded and videotaped and then sold and promoted to the public. The musicians will be paid from the earnings of the project.
musicians were interviewed and 16 sets were selected. My coworkers tell me that doesn't even scratch the surface of the talent here. I can believe it. Tom stands to be made a saint in the town or a statue made. They honored him quite a bit last night, complete with photo shoot at the end with various formations of the muscians and an elder telling a tale of bridging the gap between the worlds with music. The music went on from about 5:30 to midnight, then dinner was served. I was fully entertained by the singers, sitar,harmonia,holy drumming and other classical Indian music tho starting to droop in my seat by the lack of food and length. In any case, it was excellent music! The musicians are jazzed about this project. Thruout the show I sat next to a woman who served as kind of my interpreter thruout the show. She was one of the singers wives. I especially liked the holy drummers which she explained were the drummers from the Diwali the most popular festival in the year.
