Hi,
I saw on the news last night and again this morning that Ryan Chicovsky is missing in Laos, Vietnam. They found his stuff at the hostel but no Ryan and his friends report he had no problems. He went over to teach English,
He is posted missing on the US embassy/Laos site: http://usembassy.state.gov/laos/
Pray for Ryan's safe return! What I know of him is a wonderful young man....gentle, steady, smart as a whip, athletic, always with a smile. Played softball with him over the summers. So many of our children are across the globe doing wonderful things and Ryan is among them. Anyways, I don't know what to do or say except pray to keep Ryan, Keenan, Tasha, Judy and Chico (David - Dad's nickname) in our thoughts and that Ryan will return safely.
Please see email below which I just received from Heather Arps. Even if you do not know Ryan please contact these represenatives and the embassy so they will continue their efforts to find Ryan. We are a very closeknit community here on the island and this affects each one of us deeply. Thank you.
Sue
Update 4/9 - Do not write to the represenatives...they are on it!
( I will update with any developments)
Greetings to all,
I have a favor to ask each of you......we have a child missing from one of our Lopez Families and I am asking you to help us in our efforts to find him and bring the whole family safely home in a timely manner. Ryan Chicovsky works is China and went to Laos to travel before meeting his parents (David and Judy) for a scheduled visit early this month. The details are not many, nor is it clear what exactly happened, but his back pac and passport were found in a 'guest house' in the northern part of the country, prompting a missing persons report on March 25th. As I write, Dad is starting a village by village search, while Mom stays in the capital to deal with papers, etc. We are hoping and praying for some odd turn of events that would keep Ryan from contacting his parents for over a month, such as, he was hurt and is being nursed by a local village who do not know the panic his disappearance has created....
Altho you may not know this boy or his family, please take a few minutes to contact the following people with a plea for continued help in this matter. They say the more people heard from the better, they will follow up on it. Call these representatives and let them know about our concern for Ryan (and his family). Ask them to be sure that everything possible is being done to find him. When you call you can mention that he is on the US Embassy in Laos missing person web site. http://usembassy.state.gov/laos/wwwfmissing.pdf

Greetings,
We are friends of David and Judy Chicovsky of Lopez Island, WA. They are currently in Laos searching for their eldest son, Ryan, who was reported missing March 25. We appreciate all that is being done on their behalf and urge you to continue to give your FULL support to bring about a swift and happy end to this nightmare.
Thank you,
The Arps Family
Here is an early email from the Mom
......We would like to share with you what we are actually doing and share the information with a few of our friends. We came to Hong Kong to meet with Ryan and travel in China, but last Thursday we had a call from the US Embassy in Laos where Ryan was traveling until he met us that he was reported missing by the police in the province Luang Namtha in northwest Laos. We have been in almost constant communication with the people at the embassy there
and the consulate here in HK. We feel that they are investigating extremely thoroughly with a lot of people. We will be traveling to Laos tomorrow to the capital and then on to the province where he was last seen. It is so very difficult and we would appreciate any and all positive energy sent Ryan's way.
It is now 1:22pm on Wednesday,4/5. Judy and David

Thank you to everyone who takes the time to help this family..they are dear to us and we want them ALL back safe.
