This is my last post about the snow for awhile. We do get snow here. Just not too often. And snow on the heels of huge windstorms and days of rain makes snowfall even more dramatic. It weakens things. Like roots of trees and branches. And they fall down and block driveways and smash through windows. Chainsaws must be taken out and paths must be made so one is not trapped by trees and snow.
As Islanders venture out from under this storm there will be stories. Stories of the frozen and broken things and the adjustments that were made to life because of the snow and cold. The adventures.
I feel good as far as keeping the homestead intact. No bust pipes or anything. Just a frozen sink drain that has since thawed out. And blackberry bushes that were flattened by the weight of the snow that seem to be springing back up. Good thing because without those blackberries I can see my neighbor and she can see me and we wouldn't want that! Because my neighbor and I barely get along, and like fences, blackberries make good neighbors.
